Hi! My name is Melissa and I’m 34 years old. I was diagnosed with gestational diabetes during my first pregnancy. I followed a low-carb diet until I had my beautiful little girl.
I was instructed to follow up with my doctor a month after giving birth to make sure my sugar levels were still okay. Unfortunately, I didn’t do the follow-up until a year later, and after having my daughter I’d been following a terrible high-fat, high-carb diet. As many call it, “the see-food diet.” Meaning you see it and you eat it! It definitely took its toll on me, and when I finally followed up with my doctor she urged me to make changes in my diet and lose weight. I was pre-diabetic, had high cholesterol, and a very fatty and unhealthy liver.
Then in 2016 I was introduced to the Ketogenic lifestyle, and today I am so happy because I am no longer pre-diabetic, my cholesterol is in normal range, and there are no abnormalities with my liver! It’s not easy, but it is definitely worth it.
In October 2015 my weight was 268 lbs. I started making small changes at first so I wouldn’t feel overwhelmed and be tempted to quit. First I stopped eating tortillas, then a month later stopped eating bread, and then gave up soda. When I followed up with my doctor, however, my blood sugar levels were still elevated.
We follow Melissa on Insta and love her many great ideas for low-carb, Keto-friendly meals, whether you’re eating out or eating in. And her motto? DON’T QUIT. Words to live by!
