Meet Heather. She’s a lawyer, a Canadian, and a keto success story.
We know that overweight kids have a significantly higher risk of being overweight as adults. But the person I want to introduce you to is living proof that your past does NOT have to dictate your future. This is something I find incredibly inspiring, in so many ways.
Heather Bracken (on Insta at @hbketo) has lost more than 170 pounds, and she now co-hosts a great podcast called “The Keto Happy Hour.” She’s a fan of Nush, and believe me, we’re fans of hers! Please read Heather’s story and you’ll see why.
I’ve struggled with my weight my whole life. I was a huge baby, and always the largest kid in my class. When I was 26 years old and tipping the scales at 360 pounds, I felt completely hopeless.
My family doctor supported weight loss surgery, and eight years ago I had gastric bypass. Weight loss right afterward was fairly easy, but it didn’t take long for reality to hit and for me to learn that I still had to choose the food I put in my mouth, and that—surgery or no surgery—my body would still be a product of my food choices.
I tried several versions of low carb, but nothing worked for me until I tried the ketogenic way of eating. For the first time in my life I wasn’t afraid of food! I could eat all kinds of enjoyable foods, I felt satisfied, and I felt in control of my eating choices. Moreover, I discovered the added benefit of increased energy and focus—which makes a huge difference in both my career and personal life.
Following keto has helped me continue to lose weight, even after the benefits of surgery faded. And most important, it’s helped heal my relationship with food.
I follow Heather on Instagram, and she has tons of ideas for keto meals and recipes. Add to that the fact that she’s just a really honest and positive breath of fresh air. (Did I mention that she’s Canadian? If you are too, you can purchase Nush cakes from our Canadian retailer, www.sweetandsprouted.com!)
Thanks, Heather, for sharing your story, and for giving all us a dose of inspiration. Keep on keto-ing on!
