What does Keto really mean?
And why is everyone talking about it? It’s true that Nush cakes fit neatly into the “Keto” diet. But a lot of people are still wondering, what IS the Keto diet?
Before I go into that, I should say that at Nush Foods we don’t really believe in going on “diets.” I speak from years — basically my 20s and 30s — of personal experience with this! You might succeed in losing some pounds when you go on a diet, but then you end the diet and the pounds come back on. In fact, there’s now plenty of research to show that not only do you gain the weight back when you’re off the diet, but most people go up even higher than they were before! So we can’t recommend temporary, drastic changes in the way you eat. But what we CAN recommend (and I speak from more recent years of personal experience with this!) is permanently cutting back on your consumption of sugar and processed carbs.
The Keto way of eating is designed to get your body to burn fat — rather than sugar — for fuel. So it’s very low in sugar and carbs, but NOT low in fat. As we all know, fat is delicious. Olive oil, butter, whipped cream, coconut oil — these things add a whole lot of wonderfulness to a whole lot of foods, especially vegetables. And you know what I really love about fat? It’s satisfying. Unlike sugar, it doesn’t fuel your appetite. It actually keeps your hunger under control.
If you want a clear description of why the Keto diet works — including the science behind it — below is a link to a great article from one of my favorite websites, Ditch the Carbs. And if you find it convincing, remember: Nush cakes are Keto-friendly 🙂
